Ted Morse

Ted MorseTed started dancing with the Oxford Morris Men and Oxford City Folk Dance Club when he was 17 where he played for the Morris and became Bagman and Squire.  At 19 he was calling regularly and running barn dances, leading a band on accordion and calling at the same time.  In the 1970s, for family and work reasons, he dropped out of the main folk scene but continued with the barn dances.  As a Primary school teacher and later headteacher, he taught Morris, Sword and Country dancing in schools and ran numerous Schools' Folk Dance Festivals and courses for teachers.

On retirement, Ted retrained to repair brass musical instruments from his home workshop and in 2003 joined Headington Quarry Folk Dance Club where he is now Chairman.

Since then he has called in Oxfordshire, in surrounding counties, at Cecil Sharp House and has led Folk Weeks at Halsway Manor.

For the past seven years he has run very successful and well attended Day Folk Band workshops in Oxfordshire, preparing bands of up to 90 musicians during the day and, in the evening, calling to their playing for an evening dance.

Ted plays accordion, percussion and tuba.
